Popcorn is a beloved snack enjoyed by many, especially during movie nights. However, one designer, Natsuyo Ozawa, noticed a common problem while sharing a bag of popcorn with a friend in a dark movie theater - it was difficult to gauge how much popcorn was left inside without making a mess. This inspired Ozawa to create the "Cheer Popcorn" package, a convenient and fun way to enjoy popcorn without dirtying your hands.
The "Cheer Popcorn" design addresses two main issues - keeping fingers clean and providing visibility of the remaining popcorn. The package features a second structure and a golden ribbon that allows the consumer to pull up the inside pack, eliminating the need to reach deep inside the bag. This unique design ensures that consumers can finish their popcorn without getting their hands dirty. Additionally, the front part of the package is transparent, allowing consumers to see exactly how much popcorn is left inside.
When it comes to the technical aspects of the design, Ozawa prioritized high-quality materials and attention to detail. The golden ribbon serves as a key element of the structure, enabling easy access to the popcorn. The package itself is made of coated black paper, giving it a sleek and fashionable appearance. The transparent sheet on the front adds a touch of elegance while providing visibility.
The "Cheer Popcorn" package comes in three different sizes - large, medium, and small - catering to different group sizes. Each size is carefully designed to ensure the optimal popcorn-eating experience. The assembly process involves printing and cutting the necessary materials, including the striped paper and black paper, and then assembling them with the transparent sheet. The golden ribbon is cut and laced into the package, allowing for easy pulling of the inside cup. Finally, the lid is closed and the logo is pasted.
Ozawa's design project took place from April to June 2016 at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology in Taipei, Taiwan. The research phase involved studying existing high-class popcorn brands and exploring popcorn package designs on platforms like Pinterest and Google. Ozawa drew inspiration from the fashionable popcorn bags designed by CHANEL, aiming to create a high-class and emotionally appealing popcorn package.
The "Cheer Popcorn" package not only solves practical issues but also adds an element of joy to the popcorn-eating experience. With its convenient design and transparent front, it provides a cheerful and interactive way for consumers to enjoy their popcorn. Ozawa's innovative design earned the "Cheer Popcorn" package the Bronze A' Design Award in 2017, recognizing its outstanding creativity and contribution to improving the quality of life.
